Welcome to the age of New Media:
An era where art and technology combine to create instant, interactive mass communication…and the tools being used are not only in the hands of the corporation, they’re available to the individual. Increasingly, the world and ourselves will continue to be transformed on every level: Are you ready?

This introductory course examines the theory and use of New Media in mass media culture and as a tool in creating commercial and fine art. Through a combination of practical design exercises, case studies, discussions and presentations, the creative potential of digital media and technology is explored. Learn to manipulate static images, animate digital video and design an interactive Web site, by using Adobe Photoshop and Premiere, and Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Course Learning Outcomes/Competencies
Upon successful completion:

• Students will demonstrate an ability to analyze and critique the creative strategies employed in New Media, including those created by corporations, individuals and artists.
• Students will develop creative strategies and produce New Media which effectively demonstrate both personal/artistic expression and larger theoretical approaches.
• Students will demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of creative production in New Media, which include manipulating static imagery with Adobe Photoshop, constructing animations with Adobe Premiere and developing an interactive Web site with Macromedia Dreamweaver.
