Web Site Design, Creative Strategy

Your web site functions as an online brochure, marketing your education and experience to potential employers. Research web site designs, settle upon your own visual approach, and using Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Dreamweaver create your own. The final project will be published on the World Wide Web.

1. Research other web sites to get inspired.
Using the internet, research visual approaches to other web sites. Decide upon a stylistic approach that you would like to use, and print at least three examples of artwork/designs that have influenced your own design. Write a paragraph or two about the visual approach.

2. Executional Considerations:
What do you need to produce the artwork? For example - software, resolution requirements, measurements of final piece, scanning, deadline for project, etc.

3. Describe the target audiences for this site:
Education, employment, age range, income range, gender, lifestyle, concerns/aspirations

4. How does the site:
• attract attention to itself?
• enlist reader interest?
• incite the reader to action?

5. Develop the site architecture and sketch it out on paper.

6. Create a thumbnail sketch of the home page.

7. Creative Process:

Write a paragraph or two about how you arrived at your final image. What were some of the emotional, technical and creative challenges, surprises and insights?

8. Describe the images your site uses, and how do they relate to the site’s overall theme?
What is the implied message behind your choice of the elements of your design? Describe the meaning of your images, colors, layout and font choices. What is the overall theme to your artwork?

9. How is emotional and/or intellectual involvement achieved?
What creates emotional and or intellectual involvement in your web site? What emotional or intellectual reaction do you intend to trigger in your viewer?

10. How does your web site have visual impact?
What makes your choice of artwork or visual elements stand out and provoke attention?
