Setting up your folder for Dreamweaver

When setting up your folders for Dreamweaver, all of your files should go into one main folder:

When you open that folder, you should have another folder called "images" and another folder called "photoshop files." Your "htm" pages should be in the main folder, and all of your jpg and gif files in the "images" folder. Then your psd files should be in your Photoshop files folder:

This should be done before opening Dreamweaver, and setting your site folder (Managing Site).

If you don't have your files arranged this way, and have already created your htm pages, then create the new folders, on your desktop. DON'T MOVE THE JPGS/GIFS AND PSDS INTO THE NEW FOLDERS VIA THE DESKTOP INTERFACE. YOU MUST MOVE THEM WITHIN DREAMWEAVER, OTHERWISE YOU'LL SCREW UP ALL OF YOUR LINKS.

Once you've created the "images" and "photoshop files" folders within your main web site folder, leave them empty, and open up Dreamweaver. Don't bother copying your "Photoshop files" into the "W" drive - they are too large, and are not used by your web site. Just keep them saved in your "S" drive.

Using the floating FILES palette, move your jpgs/gifs and psd files into the folders this way. Dreamweaver will ask you "do you want to update the links?" Click YES.
